NIST’s test methods for small unmanned aircraft systems (sUAS) provide a way to objectively measure and compare system capabilities and remote pilot proficiency. They are low cost, easy to fabricate, and simple to conduct so they can proliferate widely. There are more than twenty test methods being standardized through the ASTM International Standards Committee on Homeland Security Applications; Response Robots. They are also referenced as Job Performance Requirements in the National Fire Protection Association Standard for Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Used For Public Safety Operations and the ASTM Standard Guide for Training for Remote Pilot in Command of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Endorsement.
Course Summary
The Regional Training Center, utilizing the National Institute of Standards and Technology Aerial Test Methods, is honored to provide a Train-the-Trainer course for the NIST Level 3 Open, Level 4 Obstructed, and Level 5 Confined Test Methods for Small UAS. Incorporating the NIST testing methods into agency training has become the industry standard in public safety. The RTC recognizes the incredible value of a reproducible method to objectively evaluate and measure the proficiency and control of UAV piloting. Graduates of this course will be certified RTC Proctors in Level 1 Basic Proficiency, Level 2 Maneuvering, Level 3 Open, Level 4 Obstructed Lanes, Level 5 Confined, and NIST Scenarios to reproduce at their respective agencies.
Course Information
Course Length: 3 days (24 hours total)
Max Class Size: 20-40 Students (facility restrictions apply)
Equipment: Students will need to bring their assigned UAV for testing. RTC may be able to provide equipment upon advanced request.

The Regional Training Center operates out of a secured facility. Please bring a photo ID with you to your first day of class, as you will be required to undergo a simple background check to comply with I.T.A.R. regulations. Please park in the area indicated below. Checkin time on the first day of class is 0730 hours, the doors will be locked until then.
**Special Note** The facility is large industrial warehouse for ISC or Interconnect Solutions Company. Go to the front entrance of the facility (where the flagpoles are). Once in the lobby, make an immediate left and proceed up the stairs. The classroom is located at the top of the steps and immediately to your left.**
Please do not park in the “NO PARKING” areas listed on the map (guest parking and the first two rows closest to the facility) as it is reserved for ISC employees…
